An Afternoon Tea Second To None At Four Seasons DIFC

Clink china teacups (or champagne glasses) and nibble on homemade macaroons whilst admiring the view of the Burj Khalifa from the comfort of your plush velvet sofa. A contemporary take on the traditional British affair, at the Penrose Lounge sandwiches are replaced with creamy foie gras mousse, tremendous truffle eggs and luxurious lobster rolls.  Make your way up the slick slate cake stand to the stand-out desserts almost too pretty to eat, and indulge in the delicate flavours of  the French petit-fours.

You can opt to start the tea with a glass of Veuve Cliquot and then pick from a menu that lists close to 20 different teas, from the classic darjeeling to the more exotic rosebud or jasmine. All the flavours of a traditional British afternoon tea are present on the brand new menu, from the lovely selection of homemade scones (plain, cheddar and chocolate), topped with zingy plum jam and cream, to the finest cured smoked salmon bellini’s and bite sized lobster rolls. Alternatively, there are some more uncommon concepts that totally wowed us such as the heavenly smooth foie gras mousse – rich, creamy and utterly delicious. Another highlight was the interesting combination of truffle and egg, which made for a truly scrumptious result!

Eventually we reached the top of the primly presented slate cake stand where deliciousness after deliciousness was awaiting us, from chocolate opera cake, homemade macarons, raspberry spongecake and more. Everything was tasty, however a favourite was the elderflower and strawberry compote, topped with whipped cream and a beautifully bouncy meringue. What might have been a good addition would be some fruit, drizzled in honey as a little ”affogato” after all that fabulously fulfilling food!
