Here in Qatar we are united in our love and appreciation of Doha. Qatari’s are proud of their city; it totally captivates the interest of other Gulf residents who come to visit and ex pats who have made this their home, love the vibrancy of life here.
And there is another city that holds a very soft spot in the hearts of many Qatari’s and thanks to British Airways, those travelling from Hamad International Airport now have another direct means of getting there.
Launched at the end of October, 2016, British Airways converted their Doha-London route from a stop-over – in Bahrain – to a direct flight. For after over 50 years of flying to the Qatari capital, British Airways customers now enjoy an uninterrupted journey route to Doha, which consequently cuts the flying time to just seven hours.
Since this historic change in October, British Airways is now considered to be a strong contender to Qatar’s national carrier, Qatar Airways. They both have direct services to London – however, British Airways is especially good value.
A trip by British Airways to America becomes even more enticing as it’s possible to break the journey and spend a magical day in the iconic city of London.
A 14 hour flight to the US may seem daunting but book a British Airways daily flight from Doha to London and feel rest assured that this will be your ticket to a relaxing and enjoyable flying experience – the British Airways Club World in the Boeing 777 is bright, airy and inviting.
Club World is BA’s business class brand has all the premium trappings you expect. The 777 Club World is an extensive cabin with rows of seats in a 2-4-2 configuration and in what can be described as ‘head-to-toe’ formation. Your privacy is ensured with screens that divide you from fellow passengers, creating your own personal space.
When flying in premium class, the key preference is the sleeping option that the cabin provides and so knowing that the seats can adapt into a fully reclined flatbed is again a comfort advantage. Just with a flip down of the footrest in front of you, the bed can also be extended by a few more inches, making you all set for a very relaxing inflight experience.
You are first settled in with a welcome drink of your choice, served by friendly crew, who show you how to adapt your seat to your liking and ensure that you are au fait with the inflight entertainment system. The crew both warm and, more importantly, very approachable, helping you to feel relaxed as they hand you your headphones and an Elemis amenity kit – with toiletries, cozy socks, eyeshades, toothbrush and toothpaste and the very much loved earplugs.
Take your time deciding your lunch preference from your menu card and then refresh yourself with warm towels and enjoy a takeoff drink, accompanied with nuts. These will be followed swiftly with your meal choice – every taste is catered for and all prepared and presented to perfection, whether you select white or dark meat, a fish or vegetarian option.
Then as you recline back in your seat with the cabin lights dimmed, you can choose to leisurely browse through the extensive duty free magazine, or unwind with a selection from the in-flight entertainment just at your fingertips. As you catch up with your favorite TV Episodes or the latest released movie, you may wish to nibble on something from the Club Kitchen, which is set up for self-service and available at your own convenience. Located in the galley, Club World passengers can help themselves to snacks such as fruit, ice cream, chocolates and sandwiches.
Afternoon tea – a great British tradition – is served prior to landing and then it’s the ideal time to make use of your Elemis wipes, hand lotion, face moisturizer and lip balm.
It is absolutely lovely to land in London knowing that you can take in the sights of the city for a day before heading on again to your next leg of the journey westwards.
The second best part of transiting through London with British Airways ….it has to be its World famed lounge in Terminal 5. The Galleries lounge is found up the escalators from the First class lounge and as you ascend upwards you take in the great views of the Southern runway. The lounge itself is beautifully laid out, with ample cozy seating, plenty of reading material, a very welcoming self-service food area as well as a separate well-stocked bar, known fondly as the ‘Silver Bar’.
The lounge has been less than a year since its renovations and it is ‘newness’ it’s still evident with its beautiful polished oak wooden flooring. If it’s a welcome distraction you are after, then make a beeline for the cinema section in the entertainment zone where travelers have the opportunity to catch some live sport or selected entertainment in the airline’s 20 seat cinema.
Customers can also pamper themselves before their flight with complimentary 15 minute treatments at the Elemis Spa, providing each guest with the new concept in travel spa and skin-therapies to awaken their senses as well as rejuvenating and revitalizing for their journey. So, head to the lounge a little earlier and pamper yourself by indulging in treatments catered for the face, body as well as grooming, all before you fly!
So now you can imagine how peaceful, relaxing and most certainly how more exciting transiting in London is when embarking on a trip to the Americas from Qatar. And British Airways is the only transatlantic flight that lets you do this!
Oh….and don’t forget you get a second opportunity to relive this all again on the journey back …. Now that is definitely value for money!
